Summer Solstice 2010 and Official Consecration of the Labyrinth at Dilkusha

Sunset December 21st 2010
The residents of Dilkusha and a small group of friends gathered on December 21st 2010 at sunset.  We gathered to celebrate the summer solstice and to consecrate the Labyrinth on Dilkusha.  The days preceding December 21st were filled with rain.  However, December 21st was a fine day and our celebration and consecration was able to proceed.

Known to have a keen interest and love of Labyrinths, Dr Irene Alexander came with her gentle spirit, knowledge and wisdom to officiate at the consecration.   With beautiful flute Music playing (Tania Owens) softly amongst the warmth of this summer evening, we gathered around the perimeter of the labyrinth.

Candle lighting was shared by those who wanted to assist whilst we waited for the light of the day to fade into the dusk sky.  Irene led us into the labyrinth walking the outer circuit until we friends formed a human rim held within the edges of the labyrinth.

In the centre of the labyrinth was an advent wreath with four candles one for each of the four weeks of advent and a fifth candle, the Christ light in the centre of the wreath.  Moments were spent in silence with the beauty of the environment and in prayer acknowledging the presence of the Divine, the Creator and God

Lyndall, Tanya, Fran and Hilary were standing at the four points of the cross an integral  structure of the labyrinth and were invited to join Irene in the centre.  With a brief reflection on each of the four weeks of advent the four advent candles were lit.  The Christ candle was lit by another participant.  What a special time this was.  In the company of each other and once again in silence embracing with our vision the colours and magnitude of this one days sunset, the smell of the moist earth, the covering of the maturing adolescent rainforest surrounds and the glow of candles within this sacred circle  this ritual consecrated the labyrinth at Dilkusha.  A very special thank you to Irene for coming and giving to us this time now in memory, but is indeed embodied with each one of us present this 2010 Summer Solstice.

Celebration continued with a meal together and sharing in Paul's Birthday.

Winter Solstice 2010

On June 22nd we gathered together the Dilkusha community, family, neighbours and friends to walk the labyrinth, to celebrate the winter solstice.  For many folk this was there first experience of a labyrinth.  After a short introduction of what is a labyrinth everyone was invited to enter into the sacred circle and walk towards the centre to light a candle.  The children who attended   fitted happily into a rhythm of joyfulness, and playfully followed the path to the centre.  Adults walk some linked hand in hand, bonds of friendship winding their way along the circles of the path.  Others still walked in their own silence.   We waited until sunset, warmed by the fire of our firepit.......the candlelit labyrinth illuminating the pathways.

After this time of walking a meal of soup and bread was shared at the Antcliff household.   The candles kept the labyrinth glowing for some hours into the night.  Some folk returned to walk in the silence.
